我らが誇りは、倒れなかったことではなく、倒れる度に立ち上がったことであるという名言を残したとされるゴールドスミスの著者ということで購入。子供達の栄達を望むというある意味俗物的な希望をあからさまにしながら、素朴で品があるのがいい。勧善懲悪のラストもよし。200年前の外国の人も現在の我々と気持ちは変わらないものですね。
